Flood Relief Situation in Ubon – Part I

The American Legion at Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, Brig. Gen. Robin Olds Post Number TH01 provides flood relief in Ubon…

A request was made Sunday evening for support to the people of Ubon Ratchathani that are stranded and without food and water due to the flooding of the Mun River this week.  The Executive Committee quickly met Monday morning and allocated 25k to the effort. Our 2nd Vice Commander offered the use of his food service facility and staff to prepare meals and 100 meals were delivered by him, me, and several other volunteers last night. The Thai Army navigated a small boat for us down the alleys near Phanom and Srinarong streets where the water was nearly 2 meters high. We delivered boxed meals to the many people stranded on the 2nd floor of their homes. Many were elderly. We made it up to a makeshift tent city at a school yard where we gave the remainder away and made our return. Since we now have an avenue for the distribution of the meals, we will continue until further notice.

If anyone wishes to assist in the Post relief efforts or donate to our Relief Fund, please do so now. We are fortunate to have funds and people available to help out our community and we can always use your help.

Kudos to our 2nd Vice John Skabry for the use of his facility and staff, but even more for getting a handle on the logistical piece of this project. To date, there are 100 people that have been directly affected by our service to them. More to follow.
