Approved Legislation Concerning Toxic Exposure – The PACT Act

The PACT was signed into law by the president, on 10 August 2022, expanding healthcare for veterans. The approved legislation, concerning toxic exposure, expands healthcare benefits and coverage for veterans that were exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.

The law caps a years-long legislative process to ensure treatment for chronic illnesses that veterans have blamed on burn pits, which were used to dispose of chemicals, tires, plastics, medical equipment, and human waste on military bases. Estimates of affected troops run to 3 million or more.

During an emotional White House ceremony that reflected the struggles of military families, and the president’s personal experience, he said, “So many of you here today remind us that we have fought for this for so many years.”
